Be a misfit and stand out. Be a misfit for God and stand out for God. A misfit is someone whose behavior or attitude sets them apart from others in an uncomfortably conspicuous way. The definition of a misfit sounds negative but here I am encouraging you to behave and act in a way that sets you apart from others for the glory of God. The Bible explains that we are in this world but we are not of this world. We are born again creatures bought by the blood of the Lamb and we are set apart. You might already feel like a misfit, like you don’t fit in. One of my close friends once told me that he never felt like he fits in anywhere. This was when we first became friends. As I got to know him, I saw why he stood out. He stood out because he was on fire for Jesus and he loved living according to the Lord’s principles. It was a struggle for him for a while but he learned to live with it and to embrace it. Today he can’t be shaken in his faith. He is a good misfit for the Lord. He stands out for Jesus and his light is shining all the time. People know there is something special about him. He can appear to be obnoxiously loving but you can tell that it is the love of the Lord that is guiding him. We can all stand out for Jesus. We can all refuse to live according to the world and follow the Lord no matter what.
Stand out for Jesus today. Stand out by lifting up your hands when the going gets tough and praising the Lord. Stand out by loving the Lord and exalting Him and making Him your priority. Stand out for Jesus by walking in faith and by not letting your sight run your life. Stand out by standing up for what’s right. Stand out by showing mercy and grace to everyone. That is quite a challenge. It is sad to see Christians who profess to be walking in love but they can’t stand certain people and they condemn them. They use the Scriptures to point out sins and faults. Self-righteousness is dangerous and it doesn’t make us stand out in a good way. It highlights our lack of connection with Jesus. Stand out by being attached to the Lord and by communicating with Him all the time. You can be the misfit the Lord created you to be. It is not a bad thing. It is what we are called to be. It can be uncomfortable and it can make us feel isolated but it is in those isolated places that we find a deeper connection with the Lord if we seek His face. Stand out by seeking the Lord’s face and by seeking His kingdom.
Being a misfit for Jesus comes with its challenges but it also has many benefits. The world doesn’t need copycats. It needs originals that are not afraid to show their passion for Jesus and to love others as themselves. The world needs people who can preach the gospel of love and hope with their actions and not just with their words. The world needs misfits who don’t fit into a mold but who can get into different situations and be the best version of themselves thanks to the Lord. You and I can be the misfits that help others find their place in the Lord. We can be the models that don’t resemble anyone but Jesus. We can be spokespeople for love and for the truth. We can give hope. We can encourage others. We can motivate others. We can love others unconditionally. We can be the misfits of the Lord that make the enemy mad. He wants everyone to be the same and to be so loving of the world that we can’t hear the Lord calling us and inviting us to be different for Him. Keep walking in faith. Keep loving on everyone. Keep being a misfit for Jesus. Keep standing out and standing up for the Lord. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!
