Disconnect so you can connect

Sometimes you need to disconnect so you can connect. Let me explain. We are a very connected society. More than ever. Our phones have become a link factor that connects us and that keeps us informed of what’s going on in the world all the time. We can use them for many reasons but the main function of a phone is to connect us and to keep us in the know. We are extremely connected to the world and for that reason we are often disconnected from the Lord. When I bought my current phone, I prayed over it. I thanked God for it and I asked Him to help me use my phone to His glory. I do a lot of my daily writing and daily devotion on my phone. However, I find that I need to disconnect from my phone so I can better connect with the Lord. There is a great benefit from turning the phone off and turning communion time with God on. God is a one-on-one God. He doesn’t need any media and any buffer to connect with us. We don’t need any in-between to get in touch with Him. He is a personable God who adores talking to us and listening to us. I have a hard time hearing Him when I am so involved with my phone. Today I want to encourage you to disconnect so you can better connect with God.

I used to worship God using a boom box. I didn’t start playing worship music on a phone. I used a separate device. Sometimes it was a CD in my car. Then I learned to worship and adore the Lord with my own words. I created my own music if you will. That new concept revolutionized my praise time. The words came from my heart and went straight to the heart of God. I have kept that practice going. It is one of the best practices that I will never change. Worshipping the Lord in spirit and in truth. I speak to the Lord when I first get up and my praise and worship time doesn’t require a phone or a device of any type. I am the device. I am the worship machine. I am the vessel of praise. I can do that when I disconnect from the world and I connect to the Lord directly with no interference.

Another way of disconnecting from the world is isolating myself and sitting there with the Lord. I love those meditative times. I close my eyes and I listen. I close my eyes and I thank the Lord. I close my eyes and I focus on Jesus. I close my eyes and I run verses through my head. I close my eyes and I embrace the smile and the love of the Lord. I close my eyes and I shut down the world. I close my eyes and I open my heart to the Lord. I close my eyes and I give myself a chance to learn from the One who knows all things. I close my eyes and I open the door to wisdom, peace and encouragement. When I am too connected to the world, I have a hard time getting into prayer mode and my mind is filled with distractions that eat at my faith. Disconnect from the world on a daily basis, friend and you will get the right connection.

God has a lot to say. God has a lot He wants you to experience and to understand. God wants you to see Him for who He is and not to see Him for who other people say He is. God loves spending time with you and He is looking for your undivided attention. Give Him the time of day every day. Give Him your undivided attention on a regular basis. Get the right connection and you will grow in the things of the Lord. You are in this world but not of this world. Spend time with family. God is family. If you connect with Him a lot, you will love Him more and more and you will become a greater blessing to others. Disconnect from the world every day and connect with the creator of the world every day. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

Protect the flame

A few weeks ago I wrote about the light of the Lord that we have in us. The light comes from the Spirit of God who dwells in us. It is the light of the Lord that shines through us so we can brighten the world. Many people need the light that is in you, friend. Many people live in a dark world where there is no hope and no light to be found. Many people have never seen the light. Many people do not know who the Lord is and what His love, His joy and His peace are like. Many people are waiting for the light in you to find them and revive them. Many people are waiting for that flame of hope and you can give it to them. Now, it is important that you protect the flame. Protect the flame of the light that God has put A few weeks ago I wrote about the light of the Lord that we have in us. The light comes from the Spirit of God who dwells in us. Many people do not know who the Lord is and what His love, His joy and His peace are like. Many people are waiting for the light in you to find them and revive them. Many people are waiting for that flame of hope and you can give it to them. Now, it is important that you protect the flame. Protect the flame of the light that God has put in you. Don’t let it dwindle. Keep the flame going. Keep the light shining. There are negative opportunities for that flame to be blown away. Every bad circumstance and every bad break come with the power to reduce your flame and to hide your light. Keep the flame burning. Don’t let your situation dictate how much light and love you are going to give to the world. Let me light in you show you how much love you need to bring into this world. Jesus is the light of your light as I like to say. Let the Light of your light shine all the time.

When I get frustrated, I open the door to emotions that make me focus on anything but the Lord. When I get sad, I have a hard time reaching down on the inside and letting the light of the Lord warm up my heart. However, when the flame of the light of the Lord is high, frustration and sadness have no power over me. When the light of the Lord is vibrant and in full display, negativity can’t get the best out of me. How do I protect that flame? I do it by pumping myself up in the Lord. I pump it up by being excited about the Lord and by lifting Him up. I place Him about everything. When something bad happens, I pump up the joy of the Lord by shouting His name and making Him bigger than my trials. It takes effort but it is a crucial step when we want to protect the flame. That flame can change someone’s day for the better. That flame is hope. That flame is pure joy from Heaven. That flame is the difference that someone might be needing today. Let the flame speaks for itself by expressing the love of God and expressing Jesus.

Our daily prayers and our daily interaction with the Lord allow us to protect the flame He has placed in our spirit. That flame looks different from everyone but it is that unique thing, that special element that warms up an entire room when it is on. We have to keep the flame on. We have to remain positive. We have to walk in the truth of the Lord. That will give the flame a chance to shine. That precious flame in you is that one thing that refuses to give up and that believes in the best all the time. It is the stubborn goodness that won’t go away. Fan the flame every day, friend. Start the day in communion with Jesus and the flame will be on. Pray throughout the day. Be thankful throughout the day and above all let Jesus show love to others through your flame. Protect the flame by constantly giving it a chance to burn for others. The flame of the Lord in you will ignite beautiful moments, brighten up faces that only new frowns and make broken hearts feel at home. Protect the flame all the time. Stay in the Lord and you will shine for His glory. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

Finding God in your broken place

Sometimes it is during the bad times and the broken times that we find God. Sometimes it is when we spend time in those broken places that we find God. Sometimes it is a broken heart to find God. It is in our weakness that the Lord is our strength. It is in the places where hope is gone, that we can unearth the truth of God. Why? Because His truth is the only thing that still stands and that can fix us. When something is broken, we have to find what it takes to put it back together. In the natural, it can mean glue, scotch tape or something else that will hold every piece together. When you are in your broken place, you need the Lord to put you back together. You need His glue, His scotch tape and whatever else He chooses to mend you. God is there in the broken places of life. Those places can feel very lonely but God is everywhere. Nothing can ever separate you from God. Next time you are in a broken place, remember that nothing is going to prevent God from being with you and because He is with you, you can expect restoration and some major fixing.

The broken places of life can look different for everyone. One thing they have in common is that they signify a rupture, a break and a disconnection. Being sick is a broken place that can isolate us and make us feel alone. The broken place of illness is not only a lonely place that at times we believe we can never leave. Jesus is still a healer. He is the ultimate healer. When you are in that broken place, call on Him. Call on Him and confess that by His stripes you were healed. Accept His healing. Embrace the fact that He can still heal today. Develop your faith in His ability to heal today. If we believe in parts of the Bible, we should believe in all parts of them. Why believe in the resurrection and not believe in healing? I think that if we preached more about healing and people heard the truth about it, people would have more faith in it and we would experience more healing. Believe that in your broken place of sickness, the Lord is present and He is waiting for you to express your faith.

If you are in a broken place today, whether it is financial, emotional, spiritual or physical, know that there is hope for you. The Lord God Almighty is ready to mend your heart and to fix the place where you have been. He doesn’t want you to dwell in a place of misery. He doesn’t want you to stay broken and to miss out on what He has for you. He is smiling at you and calling you. He wants you to hold His hand, trust in His Word and believe that He can fix everything. Your broken place is a temporary location. It is not where you belong and it is not where you will live forever. Say a prayer. Tell Jesus how much you love Him and how much you need Him today. Ask Him to fix your situation and thank Him for intervening. Stay positive during the process of restoration by speaking the Word of God over your situation. When you are broken, God is strong and He is whole and He will make you whole. Don’t lose hope. The Lord is putting back all the pieces one by one and He is creating something better than what you had. Stay in faith. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

THE FAMILY OF HOPE AND LOVE

Peace is one of the best things we can have. Peace works with faith. Faith comes with peace. When we trust God, we have peace because we know there is nothing to worry about. I have mentioned many times that God gives us peace that surpasses all understanding and faith is a fruit of the Spirit that surpasses all understanding. It doesn’t make sense when you have faith. We hope for things not seen. We see the world crumbling around us but we still have hope in the Lord. Faith doesn’t make sense to our human minds but it is understandable by our spirit. Faith makes sense to the one whose spirit is anchored in Jesus. Faith is family to those who rely on Jesus. It is part of the family of love and hope. Faith is a strong member of that family. Every member of that family is connected and they all work together. They can’t be separated and they are always in harmony. Now, peace is part of that family as well. What happens too often is that we break up that family by focusing on faith without love or by fixing our eyes on faith and we don’t accept peace as a member of the family of hope and faith. Today I want to encourage you to embrace the family of hope and faith also known as the fruit of the Spirit.

When the family of hope and faith becomes your family, you don’t want to be away from those great members. You stay close to them and you rely on them. You make yourself at home where they are and you engage with them all the time. You understand that God is the head of the family and you love the members of this amazing group. The goal is to remain in the family and to interact with every member knowing that their impact on your life is precious. Love is the chief member of the family if you will. Love makes everything clear and meaningful. Love is the member that reminds us of Jesus and His sacrifice on the cross. If there is one member we should pay more attention to it is love. Love wins. Love prevails and love gives us strength. The family of the Lord is the best family there is and you and I are blessed to be part of it. The family of love and hope is your family, friend. If you are not aware of it, know that you are in this great family that will always count you in and that will always support you.

Love and hope are what God is all about so it makes sense that He gave us the fruit of the Spirit. You have the fruit in you. You have the family with you. Take them into consideration and let the family express itself. Let yourself be guided by the family of hope and love. Walk by love and not by hate. Hang on to hope all the time. Rejoice that you have the fruit of the Spirit. You can display the relationship you have with the family of hope and love every day. People are longing to be introduced to love and hope and you are the perfect agent for that. You can make a difference when you know whose family you belong to and when you let the fruit of the Spirit grow in you. The family of hope and love never fights and never quarrels. The family of hope and love is filled with joy and always looking for people to bless. You and I are in the hands of the Lord and in His hands, we can do great things including spreading love and faith. My prayer is that you stay in the spirit and that you hold on to the goodness of the Lord that is in you. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

5 essential keys

There is a door that opens the way to a place where peace reigns, joy is strong and faith is everywhere. There are five keys that open that door. Each key is precious and powerful. God has given us the keys to getting to that place. It is not a place far away. If you believe in God, you might have been to that place and you might be living there. If those keys are on your keychain, I encourage you to use them all the time. Open that door and keep it open. Step inside that place and stay there. make yourself at home in that place. Get comfortable and don’t leave it. We tend to travel too much when the Lord wants us to stay in His house and enjoy His presence. Let me talk about the 5 keys today. I hope you will take the keys and open the door to a place where God is always present and doubt and fear are banned.

Key#1: Faith. Faith is the key that allows us to know God and to communicate with Him. Without faith we can’t please God. Without faith we can’t know God. We should always hold the key of faith and keep it very close to us. That key is the answer to all our problems, fear, and worries. The key of faith locks fear and doubt out of our lives. When fear and doubt try to get inside our dwelling place, faith blocks them and ignores them. They might be knocking on the door but faith keeps them away. They have no right to barge in and faith knows that well. The key of faith is the key to a healthy relationship with the Lord. It is crucial and it is very powerful.

Key#2: Love. Faith without love is nothing. We need faith to know God but it has to be accompanied by love. Love is the most important key even though I listed it as the second key. Love is why you and I are here. Love is the reason why we are saved. It is why Jesus came and died in our place. Love brought Him back to life and gave us eternal life. Love is more powerful than anything and anyone. Love conquers all. Love never fails. Love has won. Love will never lose a battle. God is love. Love is more than a symbol of God’s presence. Love is God with us. Let’s use the key of love every single day. It opens more doors than we know.

Key#3: Communion with the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit is a Person. He is a gift from Jesus. He is the gift that keeps on giving. He is the gift that will never let us down and that will always give us what we need. He is the gift that the world needs. He is the gift that connects us to Jesus. The Holy Spirit takes us to a place of peace where Jesus is King. When we turn the key of communication with the Holy Spirit all the time, we open the door to a union and a communion that is holy and pure. We open the door to knowing Jesus, which is primordial and more than necessary.

Key#4: Prayer. Prayer will never get old. I can’t get enough of prayer and I pray every day. Jesus taught us to pray in His Word. If He talked about it, it means that it is something we should take very seriously. Prayer is talking to God and hearing from God. Prayer is the link that attaches us to the Father and that gives us access to His heart. Pray every day. Pray when you feel like it and when you don’t. Pray because God is listening. Pray because God is talking. Pray and you will be in the house of the Lord all the time. Pray and you will open the door to many blessings.

Key#5: Praise. God inhabits the praises of His people. When you pray, the presence of the Lord comes. Praise is an expression of your adoration to the Lord and He hangs out with you on a different level. Praise is faith speaking and acting. Praise defeats the enemy and gives us hope. Praise is what we need every day but we don’t turn to it enough. Praise the Lord and doors will unlock that you didn’t think could ever open. Praise is the key that opens possibilities and that gives you an advantage over your negative circumstances. Praise the Lord all the time and you will be in the house of the Lord where His joy is your strength.

You have the keys. Thank God for each one of them. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

Jesus, I truly…

The other day I saw a big sign on a church that read “Jesus, I truly trust in You.” I love seeing this sign and I embrace its message. I trust in the Lord and I want everything in me to declare, “Jesus, I truly trust You.” However, there are times when everything in me is saying “Jesus I truly don’t know what to do” or “Jesus, I truly want to trust You but right now I am struggling.” I am human just like anyone else and with that comes doubt and fear at times. I am learning to overcome them and to delete them from my life. One thing I know for sure is that I can’t conquer them on my own. Every I have to say “Jesus, I truly need You.” I say it when I pray in the morning. I say it a few times during the day. I am dependent on Him. I am not good enough or strong enough to make it on my own. I need Him. I have to rely on Him. I can’t live without Him. It is very humbling when we confess that we are nothing without God. When I first started saying that during prayer time, my flesh didn’t like it. My flesh would tell me that I could do a lot on my own and I had to trust that I was strong enough. I was made strong outside of God in my life and I could turn to God once I had run out of energy of my own. The truth is that without Jesus I am nothing and with Him I am someone and that someone is an overcomer. “Jesus, I truly need You and trust You” is one of my mantras and I live by it. What do you tell Jesus on a daily basis? What comes after “Jesus, I truly..”?

I am inviting you today to spend time watching what you tell the Lord. Do you rely on Him wholeheartedly? Does your “Jesus, I truly..” declaration end with words of desperation, words of hope or words of doubt? I didn’t know for the longest time that my prayers and my actions were proclaiming “Jesus, I truly am lost.” I was lost even when I thought I had been found. I was lost in myself and I couldn’t see anyone in me. The Lord was in me and He tried to get my attention a few times but I was buried in my ego and I cared about myself more than I did about the Lord. “Jesus, I am truly ok on my own” was another unconscious declaration I made. Jesus should be the center of our lives which means we should be on the periphery looking in. We shouldn’t be on the center looking out and seeing Jesus as an option among other options. He is our best option. He should be our only option. We ought to remain in Him and let Him remain in us. Once we do, we will always declare that He is all we need and we will understand that total reliance on Him is crucial. We will echo what the sign on the church said and our trust in Him will be unshaken.

Staying full of the Lord and full of His Word is a powerful way to keep trusting Him and to have strong faith in Him. When the Word of God is a big part of our lives and we study it and meditate on it, our faith skyrockets. We have to be diligent and keep at it and it produces great fruit. What I loved about the sign on the church is that it was out in the open for everyone to see. It was bold and it was strong. I want my declaration of trust in the Lord to be bold and strong. I am letting it stand in the open so that every time the enemy walks by me he can’t help but see my bold declaration. The enemy is like a lion waiting to devour us so he is always around us doing drive by’s and walk by’s and he doesn’t ever get tired. Let’s be strong and never tired to say that we truly trust in the Lord. Let our faith be heard and our hope in the Lord be visible. Our actions can show how much we trust the Lord. Let’s be the children of God who adore Jesus and who depend on Him completely. Let’s brandish a spiritual banner that reads “Jesus, we truly trust You” no matter what is going on in our lives. Let’s stay in the Word and lift up the Lord. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!
