The fellowship of the Holy Spirit

“The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with you all.”* This verse is one of Paul’s prayers for the church. I love how he wishes great things to the church and they all have to do with being blessed, receiving God’s love and being surrounded by His mercy and grace. Here he mentions the Holy Spirit. When I first got saved, I saw the Holy Spirit more as a force field or a spiritual presence but not as a Person. He is a Person and we are meant to fellowship with Him. He is God. He is alive and He dwells in us. We each get a measure of the Holy Spirit. The problem I have found is that a lot of us are not taught about Him and certainly not taught about communion and fellowship with Him. He can’t be ignored. He shouldn’t be ignored. He is the most important Person we can fellowship with. He is part of the Trinity and He connects us to Jesus. He has many names and one of them is “the Spirit of Jesus.” Who wouldn’t want to spend time with the Spirit of Jesus? Today I am inviting you to develop your relationship with the Spirit of Jesus and to fellowship with Him every single day.

A fellowship is a friendly association, especially with people who share one’s interests. We need that fellowship with the Holy Spirit. We need to associate with Him and to be on good terms with Him. When we don’t take Him into consideration in our everyday lives, we sever the relationship. We prevent Him from flowing into our lives. He wants to be acknowledged in all we do. He wants to be our best friend and best friends spend a lot of time together or at least they communicate a lot. How do you spend time in the Holy Spirit when He is already in you? Doesn’t that sound contradictory? We are the temple of the Spirit but that doesn’t mean that we act like He is in us necessarily. Someone can live in a house and ignore parts of the house especially when they are not aware of what’s in the house. I remember when I bought my house, it took me months to discover some of the great features of the house. I lived there for months without realizing what I could do with the extra room off the attic. To have fellowship with the Holy Spirit, we ought to get to know Him and we can do that through Bible study and through prayer and worship. Now, remember that the Spirit of Jesus will always point to Jesus and He adores Jesus. Praise and worship is a great place to find fellowship with the Holy Spirit.

When I became more serious about God, I started praising and worshiping Him every morning and every night. Before long, I sensed the presence of the Lord in a deep way all the time. He was like a coat, like a blanket over my spirit. I had never had such a powerful experience before that and it has stayed with me since. It was the worship and the praise that amplified the presence of the Holy Spirit. I fixed my eyes on Jesus during my adoration time and His Spirit showed up in a beautiful way. God inhabits the praises of His people and when we praise Him all the time, it adds another dimension to the habitat He has in us. Good friends who have a wonderful relationship and fellowship share common interests. Your common interest with the Holy Spirit is Jesus. He will tell you all you need to know about Jesus. He will make you love Jesus more. He will guide you in prayer and in submission to the Lord. He will help you grow His fruit and make you a well-rounded follower of Christ. The fellowship of the Holy Spirit is the key to a successful Christian life. It is the missing link in many religious circles and it is the way to a stronger connection with the Savior. Keep praying, keep praising, keep spending time with God one on one. The fellowship of the Holy Spirit will make your life so much better. Keep at it! May God bless you and protect you and remember He will always love you!

Chained to God

I was thinking the other day about how being chained to God is the best way to go. We are way too often chained to the world. We follow the world, we depend on the world and we live through the world. We are in the world but we are not of this world says the Bible. Those chains have to go. We are children of the living God and we should see ourselves as part of His family and attached to Him at all times. I don’t want the chains of the world that keep me captive. I love the chains that keep me tied to God. Those chains keep me in the truth. Those chains keep me in the power of God. Those chains set me free contrary to popular belief. Being chained to God implies being free and hopeful all the time. It implies being in the right place at the right time. I want to be chained to God at all times. I don’t want to depart from Him. I don’t want to be away from Him. Being chained to the truth is a powerful way to live and that is how I want to live. Today I challenge you to stay chained to God. Stay in the truth. Stay close to the Father. Realize that the Holy Spirit lives in you. The chains on the inside guarantee you a successful life on the outside. The chains on the inside have the ability to set your mind free and to renew your thinking.

Chains are not the most pleasant thing to look at. They symbolize detention and lack of freedom. They keep you from moving. They can prevent you from participating in everyday activities. When we think of chains we often think of prisoners. Now, being a prisoner of the Gospel is the best thing that could happen to us. It means that we are constantly tied to God and we are constantly exposed to His Word. It is an extremely positive experience. Like I said before, it brings freedom. You and I can be chained to the Gospel when we make it our priority. When our lives revolve around the Lord, we are not subject to the lies of the enemy. The lies will try to pierce the chains but our devotee hearts will keep him away. A devoted heart is what it takes to be chained to God. Discipline and dedication are part of the process. Today you and I can develop that devotion and be tied to God one chain at a time. Every effort we make to be closer to God is a link added to our lives. We can link up with God through prayer, through praise, through thanksgiving, through loving others, through prayerfully reading the Word. It is those daily linking opportunities that make a big difference when we seize them.

We have a choice every day. We can spend time with God or we can opt to be more into the world. God deserves our attention. We are so used to being world minded that making more time for God can appear to be unnatural. It should actually be natural. As believers we have the nature of God in us and we ought to zero in on His nature and let it be exposed. We need to let God in us be bigger than the world around us. We need those chains. We need to have strong links that keep us in God’s will and in His presence. I see myself chained to God and it is a beautiful vision. It is a vision where peace and joy prevail. A vision where I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. A vision where love flows to me and through me. A vision where faith prevails and fear is nowhere to be found. I am working on adding links to my chains. I am working on being more devoted and more in love with Jesus. It truly is a labor of love that is immensely rewarding. Chain yourself to God by having daily habits that allow you to engage with Him. Keep your eyes on Jesus and do not lean on your understanding. Lean on the Lord and stay close to Him. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you.

Our non-stop God

The enemy is relentless with his attacks. He doesn’t take a break from pestering us and bothering us. He is on the defensive all the time trying to get as many of us as far from the truth as possible. He is doing his best to discourage us and to derail us. He is a 24/7 fiend who doesn’t stop speaking negativity into our lives. He is our non-stop enemy. Our non-stop nemesis plots to kill, steal and destroy. If we spend too much focusing on that we can get very overwhelmed and we can fall into the trap of helpness. Yes, the enemy is bad and is always bad but we have a God who is always good and He doesn’t stop being God. He doesn’t stop being God even when the enemy is very bad. Keep that in mind and meditate on that truth. Our God is a non-stop God. He has always been God and He will always be God. He has seen it all. He knows where we came from and He knows where we are going. He knows it when we are in pain and He knows it when we are at peace. Through it all He is consistent and He needs to be praised for His everlasting love. Today I want to invite you to lift up our non-stop God. Things can be very bad in this world but they will never change our God. Have hope in your non-stop God who will never cease to amaze you!

I used to think that my problems would never stop. They seem to be etched in my life and nothing was able to remove them or to delete them from existence. Those trials and tribulations were tattooed on my life and the evil tattoo artist had used a permanent ink that was going to be with me for the rest of my life. At least that is how it felt. Then came Jesus. Then came change. Then came peace. Then came salvation. Jesus didn’t put a stop to the deluge of difficulties but He gave me the assurance that He had conquered the world and I shouldn’t worry about anything. He helped me get through the worst times with peace and with hope. He took the evil patterns in my life and turned them around. He added a huge dose of goodness to my life. His goodness made me forget my past struggles and it gave me a new lease on life. The enemy is still the enemy and he tries to devour me but I have a God who is mightier and bigger than the enemy and all his devils. My Lord Jesus never stops being Jesus. He never stops being the One who conquered death. You and I have to get into the habit of reminding the enemy that God is a non-stop God and death was defeated once and for all.

The enemy hates hearing Christians who talk about the goodness of God and who believe that God is always the same. Let’s be those believers who project the confidence that God is always God and that He can always do the impossible. We can be the voices that proclaim our powerful God over the enemy. Let’s magnify the Lord and His ability to always save us and bless us. Let’s talk Him up and put Him on a pedestal. Let’s be vigilant and let’s make sure we don’t give the enemy room to breathe. How do we do that? We keep saying and believing that greater is the Lord that is in us than the enemy that is in this world. As we keep doing that, we will undermine the enemy and glorify the Lord. The bigger the Lord is in our minds and in our hearts and the more we will see Him intervene in our lives because our faith will be bigger. Your God is never going to stop being who He says He is. He will never stop blessing you, loving you and assisting you. Trust in the God who never changes. Our non-stop God is a non-stop threat to the enemy so let’s use Him as the weapon that keeps destroying the plans of the enemy. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

Pray before you panic. Pray before you give up. Pray before you turn to anyone else. Those are encouraging words that have traveled through my heart a number of times. Praying is such a powerful tool that we are given by the Lord and we often underestimate it. The enemy puts a lot of negative ideas in our heads about prayer because he knows how effective it is. He knows that prayer connects us to the Lord. He knows that the Lord hears our prayers. He knows that prayer is like a burning fire in his ears and he can’t stand the sounds of praying believers. The enemy is sick and tired of believers who know who they are in Christ and who pray boldly to the God of the impossible.

Prayer is not what the enemy says it is. It is not a waste of time. It is not in vain. It doesn’t fall on deaf ears. It is not confined to our minds. It doesn’t fall by the wayside. Prayer is power spoken into our lives. Prayer is hearing words of peace, love and encouragement from the Lord. Prayer is making requests that will be taken care of. Prayer is hope in action and faith in translation. Our faith in God is translated into prayer and it is expressed through words of agreement and words of acceptance. When we pray, we agree with God on His promises. When we pray, we accept that God is the way and that He will make a way. Today I am inviting you to pray as often as you can. Pray and don’t stop praying!

I used to panic and lose hope very easily. I used to not give prayer a chance. I would call a friend and share all my misfortune without thinking of the Lord. Things have changed and prayer has become my first resort. There are times when panic attacks and prayer comes second but for the most part, prayer is my default setting. Why? For one thing the Lord tells us to pray all the time. I also find that prayer calms me down. Prayer helps me reach a higher level of hope. Prayer gives me a reason to rejoice. Prayer is a precious moment spent with the Lord and in that precious moment, nothing else matters. When I pray, I start with thanksgiving.

I don’t give God my requests right away. I give Him praise and then we talk. I say we talk because I do most of the talking at first and then I listen to what He has to say. What He says is comforting and it often sounds like it is coming straight from the Bible. It does and it comes straight from the heart of the Lord. God is the God of peace and when we turn to Him in prayer, He gives us peace. When we give Him the time of day, He changes our day and gives us hope and peace again. It is so easy to lose hope when things are not going well. It is so easy to think that it is all over but if we pray, God reminds us that He has the final say. It is not over so pray!

Pray in all circumstances. Pray when you are in pain and pray when you are happy. Pray when you are lost and pray when you know where you are going. Pray when your friends and family are hurting and pray when everyone around you is at peace. Pray when the enemy is taunting you and pray when you think you have it all under control. Pray when there is no money in the bank and pray when you have more than enough. Every day we have thousands of opportunities to pray and we should use all of them to spend some quality time with Jesus. Prayer is quality time with the Lord or at least it should be. Pray to Jesus and listen to His Spirit.

Pray in the name of Jesus and you will see things change in your life. Pray with his authority. Pray with hope. Pray with boldness. Pray with the assurance that God always hears you and that He is with you. Pray and make the world around you a better place. Pray and ask the Lord how He can use you to make the world a better place. Pray and submit yourself to the Lord. Pray and sing praises to the Lord. Pray and pray and don’t step away from the Lord. Things will get better. Things will get a lot better. Keep on praying. You are making Heaven collide with earth and God’s glory will save the day. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

God will make you breathe under water

I like to go deep in prayer in the morning and that’s why I wake up at 5 am. I have about an hour to spend some quality time in the Lord. The other morning when I was praying, the Lord gave me a very interesting visual. I saw myself under water. I was almost at the bottom of the ocean. Now, that was not a great sight because I am not a diver and I am not a great swimmer. In the vision I did have an oxygen tank on my back and the Lord suggested that I spent time meditating on what this meant. The oxygen tank allowed me to be under water and to move around. I looked pretty comfortable which was very interesting because being under water for me would be a chaotic experience and I would panic. I realized that the oxygen tank was a great help. It made me feel like I wasn’t under water and I could move around and do things that I could usually do when I am on the ground. The message was about the oxygen tank. The air I was getting was God. When I am going through tough times, God is the air I need. He helps me breathe under water. He gives me the oxygen that I need. He is the oxygen tank that keeps me safe and that keeps me alive.

I thought about it more and I saw many oxygen tanks. They all seemed to be on my back and they didn’t look heavy at all. As a matter of fact, they were light. The Lord’s yoke is light. What He has to give us is light. His love is light. His peace is light. His promises are light. His blessings are light. His joy is light. God will never give us anything burdensome and heavy. That is what the enemy does. God is there to remove the burdens and the weight of the enemy. Even when we are under water and we are drawing in our problems, God can remove the problems and give us peace. Those oxygen tanks I saw all represented parts of the fruit of the Spirit and they were blessings in the middle of chaos. They were freedom and deliverance. They were God’s ability to make us breathe under water. Our problems can be giants and they can appear to be invincible but the Lord Almighty has the power to tear down our problems and to give us peace and joy when we are swimming with the sharks of the enemy.

God will make you breathe under water, friend. It seems impossible but know that nothing can stop Him from blessing you. Sometimes the rocky waters push you away from the shore and you have to swim aimlessly hoping that you will find a land some time soon. I have been there. I have been in situations where there was no land in sight and my only hope was a small buoy that I was holding on for dear life. That buoy was the hope of the Lord and although it was small at times, it was there and that is all that mattered. There were other times when my mind got carried away and hope diminished. In those times I found myself at the bottom of the sea and breathing was extremely hard. However, God in all His glory has given me oxygen tanks when I least expected them. Joy, peace, love and hope came to my rescue and the Lord orchestrated the whole process. He is good and He is very generous. I don’t know what kind of waters you are facing today but I am here to tell you that God will make you breathe under water and He will bring you to shore. Stay strong. Stay encouraged. There is an oxygen tank coming your way. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

Keep showing up for God

When I was in deep prayer a few days ago, I heard deep down in my spirit, “Keep showing up. It is important that you show up.” I loved those encouraging words and I proceeded to meditate on them. To show up means to be revealed clearly but it also means to be present. It means to turn up and to be ourselves. That is what the Lord meant. He was telling me to keep being present and to turn up as myself. He was saying that it was important that I show up as the best version of myself. The best version of myself that I know so far. I believe we are always evolving with the Lord and it is good to know where we stand and where we are on the path of our evolution in Christ. I took a few moments to review in my mind how I best show up.

I took a few minutes to think about what showing up looked like in my everyday life. When I let the Lord be my Lord and my Savior. When I yield to the Holy Spirit. When the words of the Lord are my worlds. When I take a bite of the fruit of the Spirit and I let them shine through me as I am digesting them, I show up. I show up when I am more like Christ than I am like myself. I show up when I let love guide me and I walk in love. I show up when I pray, praise, worship and give thanks. I show up when my spirit is stronger than my flesh. I show up when I keep my eyes on Jesus. I show up when I place others before myself. I show up when the meditation of my heart is all about Jesus. I show up when I am quick to repent and slow to let my ego direct me.

How do you show up for God? How do you let the best version of yourself turn up and glorify the Lord? I am inviting you to answer these questions today and to make it a habit to show up. Showing up for God is putting the flesh to rest and elevating the Spirit of God. When I am tired, I have to make an extra effort to show up. When I am tired, it is easy for the old me to take over and make a mess of things. When I am hungry, I have a hard time showing up for the Lord at times. When I haven’t been in the Word, I can’t always show up as the best version of myself. When I haven’t prayed and I haven’t fed my spirit, showing up for the Lord is difficult. I know what to do to show up and I have to keep doing it no matter what my flesh says and no matter what the world wants me to do.

Showing up for God implies tuning out the world a lot and being attentive to the Lord’s voice. It means turning off that show sometimes and spending time in prayer. It means waking up a little earlier and spending time in communion with God. We have many weapons so to speak that help us show up for God and we have to use them. That beautiful Bible sitting on the nightstand will do no good unless we open it and we read it. The thought of praying later will do no good until the prayer is actually said. We can show up for God all day and I am glad the Lord assists us with that.

I am becoming more and more sensitive to showing up for God when I am interacting with others. I watch my words. I think about my body language and I am careful not to act in a way that doesn’t give God the glory. We can show up in our day-to-today life by being a vessel of God’s love. We can be patient with others. We can take the time to listen to them and to help them. We can pray for others. We can listen to what the Holy Spirit tells us to do for others and act on it. Showing up for God doesn’t have to be preaching to others with words they are not familiar with. It can be speaking the language of love that will impact their lives and that will touch their hearts. We have the love of Christ in us and we ought to spread it around and to give it freely. That is one of the best ways we can show up for God. His love is so powerful and we are agents of love that can distribute that power free of charge.

Friend, keep showing up for God even when it doesn’t feel right and it doesn’t seem easy. Easy is not always what we should be after. We should be after the Lord’s heart and sometimes we have to work harder to get the job of love and hope done. Stay in the Lord. Stay prayed up. Raise your hands in an act of praise and show up for the Lord with much love. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

Leap with God

“He makes Lebanon leap like a calf, Sirion like a young wild ox.”* I was led to this verse in Psalm 29 yesterday when I was in prayer time. I looked it up and I meditated on it. This Psalm was written by David. David talks about the wonders of God and about all the incredible things God can do. He emphasizes the power that is found in the voice of the Lord. The voice of the Lord is over the waters. It is powerful. It strikes and it shakes deserts. What is the connection between Lebanon’s leap and the voice of the Lord? The voice of the Lord is heard and miracles happen. When we hear the voice of the Lord we can take a leap of faith. It is the voice of the Lord in combination with our faith that makes us leap. His voice, His promises and our faith create miracles. Today I want to encourage you to listen to the voice of the Lord, trust His voice and take a leap of faith. Jump into the unknown. Jump into the places where faith will guide you. Jump and trust the Lord.

Can you imagine the nation of Lebanon leaping like a calf? I certainly can’t but if the Lord can make a nation leap, He can certainly make us leap. A leap is a jump forward. It is an ascension. It is more than steps forward. It is like flying for a short distance. A leap is a positive move and it takes us to a higher level even if it is not too high. I have taken leaps of faith that looked scary from a distance but faith removed the fear and I jumped. Some leaps will not feel comfortable and they will not look like a good idea but faith is not based on feelings, emotions and comfort. As a matter of fact, I was telling a friend yesterday that we are rarely  called to do what is easy, fun and comfortable. Faith will often tell us to do what feels uncomfortable, unnatural and inimaginable. Faith is the substance of things hoped for and the evidence of things not seen.** Faith and hope work hand in hand. When we have to take that leap, hope is the propelling factor. Hope is what allows us to go above the ground of doubt and to be suspended in the air of the impossible even for just a few seconds. A leap of faith might be short but it can be followed by days or weeks of blessings. Let’s leap with God as we pay attention to His voice.

Why does the voice of God matter when we take a leap of faith? Our faith has to be grounded in something solid, pure, holy and powerful. The voice of the Lord is solid, pure, holy and powerful. Therefore, we can’t go wrong when we base our faith on God’s voice. In order to do that we obviously need to go to God and listen to what He has to say. Spending time in the Word of God is crucial because His voice is loud in His Word. We find His promises in His Word and we can stand on each and every one of them. As we stand on the promises of God, we can look beyond our circumstances and our comfort zone and prepare for the leap. Each word combined with hope will push us in the right direction, in the direction of faith. There are many words in the Bible that you and I can use to take that leap of faith. I pray that you find the words that will take you to a higher level of hope and that will lead you to greater blessings. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!

Miracle money

I need to share a testimony about something that happened this week. This has been a summer of bills and a summer of stretching myself. I had an unexpected $900 bill for repairs on my AC unit. I also had a few other expenses that took me by surprise. I was a bit down about my finances but the Lord has provided. One thing I am learning is that He is faithful and when He says He will provide for us, He truly does. He is showing me that I have nothing to worry about and I should never doubt His power to provide. It has been a true walk of faith. I got to the point where I felt like I had to count every penny to make sure I had enough money to cover all my bills. I started the summer wondering how I was going to be able to afford everything and the Lord kept telling me during my prayer time that I should not fear. He kept reminding me that I am His and He is taking care of me. It is not easy to believe that when the bills are piling up and your bank account is dwindling. However, faith is a beautiful thing and when we stay strong in faith, God does the impossible. God still performs miracles today and I am getting lessons on that truth. The Lord has put a song in my heart. A song that exalts Him and that deals with my confidence in His ability to provide for me. It is a song of hope and a song of thanksgiving. I sing it when money is present and I sing it when money is scarce. The goal is to never change my tune and to keep singing about His faithfulness.

The Bible says, “And God is able to bless you abundantly, so that in all things at all times, having all that you need, you will abound in every good work.”* I take this verse to heart and I declare it over my life. He blesses us, friend, abundantly so that we have all we need. I needed my bills to be paid. I needed money for my everyday needs. He takes care of our needs so we can do His work, so we can do good work for Him. This has been a strong message in my heart for over a year. It’s the message about focusing on God and seeking His kingdom first and everything else will be added unto us. A few days ago during prayer time, I received that message again. It was very encouraging. There was nothing about not worrying. It was all about focusing on Jesus and trusting that He is my provider. I loved that message and I carried it with me all day long. After work I picked up the mail. I saw there was a letter from my mortgage company. I thought “Oh what is it now?” Something in me told me to open the letter because it was important. I wanted to wait until the weekend to open it. To my surprise the letter contained a check. It was a check for over $1500. The letter said that the mortgage company had made a mistake when I refinanced over 2 years ago. Over 2 years ago! I couldn’t believe it. I cried. My reaction was to cry with gratitude and thanksgiving. I just couldn’t believe it.

That miracle money like I like to call it was a wink from Heaven. The Lord was winking and smiling at me. He had orchestrated the whole thing and He was blessing me with something I really needed. I was flabbergasted. God is the God of surprises. I had not seen it coming. All I was declaring was that He was going to provide and I tried my best to embrace that truth. It was a miracle. For me it was a great miracle. I thanked Him most of the evening. I was so touched by His amazing gesture. God does things like that to remind us that He is in control and we have nothing to fear. What should we do with those miracles? They can serve us as reminders and they should be shared so that others can be encouraged. His message still remained that my focus should be on Him and not on His provisions. Money will come when you trust the Lord. Miracle money will show up in your mailbox when you trust the Lord. I hope you were encouraged by this testimony. Don’t lose hope. God is the God of miracles and He will not let you down. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!
