Life is a roller coaster. There are ups and downs. Sometimes things go fast and sometimes they go slowly. Sometimes you find yourself on top of the world and sometimes you are down in the valley of stress. Sometimes you think that everything is under control and sometimes you have no idea what to do and you wonder if things are going to be ok. Life is unpredictable. It can be scary and it can be daunting. One thing for sure is that if Jesus is your Savior, you have nothing to fear and nothing to worry about. He is your safe ride. He is your safety belt, your protection and your helmet.
God provides all this amazing security that you can’t find anywhere else. God is with you on this roller coaster ride and He will never leave you. He is with you when you are screaming and He is with you when you are rejoicing. The ride of your life can be complicated and it can seem endless but remember that with the Lord you are always in good hands and there is nothing that He will not do for you. The ride can be bumpy but God will help you bounce back. The ride can be frightening but the Lord will give you peace in the middle of the worst times. Life is a roller coaster but God is your defender and your protector and you will not fall.
I used to like roller coasters as a kid. I loved the thrill of the rides and I loved the fact that even though they were scary at times, they were also very safe (for the most part.) As a kid I never felt in danger on those rides. I didn’t love the high emotions and how I felt but I enjoyed the experience. As an adult now, I am not a big fan of roller coasters. The last time I was on a roller coaster, a man behind me said, “Lord, have mercy on me.” That did it for me. I said to myself that I was done. I remember actually having a bad experience on that ride because my neck hurt. Why would I go on a ride that hurt me physically and that made me feel miserable?
My life, like many lives, has been a roller coaster ride. I hold on to the seat. I hold for dear life and I know my seat is safe. The Lord has given me a sturdy seat. I can sit on the truth of His Word and know that it will be just fine. He is my Rock and my foundation and I have Him with me all the time. I don’t like it when things are going too fast and I don’t understand what is going on but what I understand is that Jesus is going with me and He won’t let anything bad happen to me. When I take my eyes off of Him, I can get myself into trouble. I can let my mind wander into places I shouldn’t visit. I focus on the emotions and the feelings of the ride instead of fixing my eyes on the One who makes the ride safe.
A roller coaster goes fast and then slowly without warning. That happens very often in life. Things can go very fast. So fast that we are taken aback and we don’t know what to do. I know that when things are out of control, God is still in control. He is not intimidated by how fast things are developing. He is not threatened by the rapid changes that occur. He often tells me to slow down when things are going too fast. It sounds contradictory but He is not ordinary. He thinks on a different level and He knows best. God’s timing and pacing are not always in sync with the world’s timing. God has a pace that defies our understanding. He can appear to be slow to act when in reality is doing everything at the right time. He is not in a hurry and He is never frantic. When life is going too fast for you, fasten your seatbelt and let God drive you. Let Him be your pilot. Trust Him more than you trust a regular pilot. It is easy to put our lives in the hands of a pilot, a total stranger but when it comes to God, we get nervous. God can fly you to your destination better than anyone else. He can keep you on that ride and get you through the bumps, the ups and the downs like no other.
Life is a roller coaster but don’t forget that the Lord knows everything there is to know about life and He can keep you safe all the time. When I was writing this message, the Lord inspired me to look up Proverbs 18:24. It reads, “One who has unreliable friends soon comes to ruin, but there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.” The Lord is the One who sticks closer than a brother and He sticks with you through ups and downs and no matter what the roller coaster of life brings your way. Trust God. You are under His protection. Stay encouraged. May God bless you and protect you and remember that He will always love you!
