Keep walking and keep going

“Keep going. Keep moving forward” I tell myself often. Keep plugging along and don’t look back and don’t look around. There are too many distractions and obstacles that can get to my head. I don’t want any of them. I want to keep walking with my eyes on Jesus. I need Him to be magnified as I take steps forward. Every time I minimize Him in my head, I end up taking a step backwards. Do you ever see yourself just moving along but it feels like you have heavy boots on, boots of the burden of the world that make you go very slowly? It is a picture I get in my mind at times. The key is to visualize myself making it even though there might be weights bringing me down. You and I are in the trenches. We walk through some deep ditches at times but we also have our feet moving on solid ground as we have the Rock as our partner in life. The Lord is leading the way and He is making our path smoother. Today I want you to keep going and ignore the distractions and the obstacles. Don’t be blind to them but don’t give them your undivided attention. Our attention and focus can turn problems into mountains, obstacles into walls and distractions into maddening mind games. Keep walking, friend. Keep moving. You will make it to your destination. With God nothing will stop you!

I used to run track as a kid and I hated it when people would cheer me on. It was reverse psychology for me. The more they encouraged me, the more I would slow down. I was always afraid to disappoint them so it made me lose my zeal. I was a fast runner but it took very little to mess up my speed and to downgrade my velocity to a much slower level. Now I still run races but they are spiritual races. I don’t compete against anyone. I just run my race. God cheers me on. His Spirit motivates me and His Son empowers me. The Lord’s cheer has a total opposite effect on me. It stimulates me and it gives me the energy to keep going. When I find myself low on fuel, I can always count on the Lord’s gas pump. In Him I find rest and peace and my tank is full after spending time with Him face to face. That is how I manage to not focus on the obstacles and the distractions. I make Him my focus and He makes me the apple of His eyes.

The obstacles on our path are hurdles that Jesus jumped thousands of years ago. Now His Spirit is coaching us on how to jump higher and overcome those barriers. The Lord did it ahead of us so when we encounter those problems, they will not affect us and we will be able to defeat them. Defeat your problems with the words of Jesus before they defeat you with the negative thoughts of the enemy. There is one way you can shed the heavy weight of oppression that brings you down and that way is the Jesus way. He is the way, the truth and the life. Follow Him. Follow His way. Follow His directions in the Bible and He will make your way easy. He will fight your battles and cut off the chains that are keeping you stuck on the ground. He will remove the burdens that are slowing down and He will stand with you in the trenches. Keep going. Don’t despair. Don’t give up. You are going to make it. Remember to focus on the way, the truth and the life. He will get you to your destination!
