It took me some time to understand what righteousness means. It is defined as being in right standing with God. I once heard a man say that his kids can go to his office anytime without having to get special permission. They can walk right in and they never get stopped by security. They have that special standing with their father that allows them to go into his work space with freedom. Righteousness with God works the same way. It allows us to walk right into His presence freely. We don’t need a pass and we don’t need to sign in to go in. We can just go straight to Him without any interference. We often think of righteousness as a result of our good actions and our deeds. We think that we are righteous when we do things that are pleasing to God. Righteousness is a free gift from the Lord. It doesn’t depend on how well we do things. It depends on what Jesus did on the Cross for us. Learn to walk right into the presence of God because of His righteousness. Don’t stay on the doorstep. Step right in!
“God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:21). Jesus carried our sins. He was sinless but God made Him take on all the sins of the world. All the sins that will ever exist. When you accept Jesus into your heart and you follow Him, you are made the righteousness of God. It is at that very moment that you become righteous. From that point on, you have free access to God’s presence and you can go straight to Him. Sin doesn’t hold you up anymore. It doesn’t stand in the way. It doesn’t mean that you don’t sin anymore. We all do but we have been forgiven through Jesus. I repent every day and thank the Lord every day for forgiving me all the time. His blood was shed for us and covers us. There is redemption in His blood. Don’t let your mind tell you that you have to do something special to talk to God or to enter into His presence. Jesus’ blood is the VIP pass that gets you backstage to where the Lord is.
“Whoever pursues righteousness and love finds life, prosperity and honor.” (Proverbs 21:21). Love and righteousness go hand in hand. God is love first and foremost. Pursuing love is pursuing God. Pursuing righteousness is living in the reality of what righteousness means. It is accepting that we have made righteous in God’s eyes. It is living the fullness of our relationship with God. It is knowing what belongs to us and enjoying it all. When we pursue righteousness and love, we can expect to receive blessings that will change our lives forever. We will find life. We will live in abundance. Jesus came to give us life and to give it to us abundantly (John 10:10). Friend, rejoice because you are righteous. Not because of what you did but because of what Jesus did for you. Enjoy your life. Enjoy the life the Lord has given you. This is an amazing life where you can get into the presence of God anytime. The righteousness of the Lord is a beautiful thing. It’s free so live it up!
