There is a time when we wonder what we need to do next. We ask ourselves “What is the next step?” First we need to recognize that God is directing our steps. Since He is guiding us it is crucial to have faith that our next step is the right step because the Lord is orchestrating the whole movement. Proverbs 16:9 says “In their hearts humans plan their course, but the LORD establishes their steps.” To establish is to set on a firm base. God is setting your steps on a firm base. This means that your next step is already programmed and it is all set. If you don’t know which way to go and what you should be doing after you have tried it all, trust that God knows all about the next step you will take and you just have to keep doing what you are doing.
When you are at a crossroad, the most important thing for you to do is to not change your (spiritual) habits. I can’t insist enough on the fact that prayer should be our daily bread. It should be our number one spiritual nourishment. Nothing should take its place. We should always find room for it even if it’s just a couple of minutes in our head. There is power in prayer. There is a lot more power than meets the eye. Prayer is communication with God as you know. Just that idea alone contains so much power. How amazing is that? We can actually talk to the Creator of the universe directly. We don’t have to do it at a certain hour or in a certain location. We can do it all the time and He listens all the time. Prayer is a two-way communication where the Lord talks and directs us. Your next step today my friend is to pray. It’s a step that will never go away.
I just love how much the Holy Spirit cares and how much influence He can have in our lives. If you need specific instructions as to what you ought to do in a situation, ask the Lord to show you. The Holy Spirit will lay out all the instructions in the best ways He knows how. I don’t know anyone better for directions. He is like the person on the street that knows where everything is. You can get lost on the corner of a street and He can tell you where to go and show you how to get there. He takes it further by actually going there with you. He will walk you there and keep you company on the way. He will entertain you and make you smile while you are walking. He will comfort you and make you feel at home no matter how far you have strayed. He will make sure you are in the right place at the right time and He will keep on checking on you even a long time after you have arrived. God is directing your steps, friend. Leave the next step to Him. Turn to Him always. He won’t mislead you. Your next step is about to be the best step. Believe it! God is in control.
