Freedom is the power or right to act, speak or think without restraint or hindrance. There have been many movements throughout history that have fought for freedom. The Bible says that “where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty.” (2 Corinthians 3:17). Liberty is another word for freedom. The Holy Spirit empowers us to speak, act and think freely without the restraint imposed by the enemy or by ourselves in some cases. The Spirit gives us the ability to live a life of freedom, a life where we can be at peace with His assistance. How free are you feeling today? Do you feel restrained in any way? Do you feel bound or chained by anything? Today I am here to remind you that freedom belongs to you. I am here to encourage you to start a spiritual freedom movement in your life.
I used to feel free until I experienced true freedom thanks to the Holy Spirit. The Spirit of the Lord can deliver us from all oppression and all chains. I had many chains in my mind that had been placed there mostly by religion and by various traps of the enemy. Religion often doesn’t come with freedom. It might present as a freedom trail but it can take you down the lane of guilt, fear and misery. Religion works with fear. It is the fear of being punished by God or not loved by Him if we mess up. Religion tells us that if we do something wrong we will disappoint the Lord. There is no freedom in thinking that way.
Anything that keeps you bound in a vicious circle of overthinking is the opposite of freedom. However, you and I are guaranteed freedom. What we need to do is call on the Lord. We need to believe that His Spirit can bring us liberty. I once prayed “Lord, I need You. I need freedom and You created freedom. Help me get an understanding of Your freedom.” He will certainly reveal it to you. A good way to receive freedom is to first identify the areas of your life where you need it. Then bring them to the Lord in prayer. Pray about it and then declare victory in the name of Jesus. Strongholds are not born overnight so you might have to declare victory over and over again. Don’t lose hope. Keep doing it. Freedom is yours. You will get to a place of peace before you know it. Stir yourself up and shake your spiritual makeup with the freedom of the Lord. “So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.” (John 8:36).
