There is bigger and better

As I was getting ready to write the message for today, I asked the Lord what He wanted me to write about. He said in His gentle and quiet voice “There is bigger and better.” I prayed about it and His statement came alive. It has to do with perception. We are confined to our perception and to how we see and apprehend the world. We are also conditioned by our environment and the company we keep. Nature (our environment) influences us and nurture (our upbringing and our education) plays a role in how we see things. Our dreams will only be as big and as good as the way we perceive them. However, it shouldn’t be a question of nature and nurture. It should be a question of how the Lord sees things. In His eyes it is “bigger and better.”

I could write the story of what I would like my life to look like. The chapters of that story would be heavily marked by preconceived notions and ideals that come from what I know a good life should look like. I could list the white picket fences, the millions in the bank, good health, a good family and the latest hot cars. As a Christian, my perfect life story would also be tainted by spiritual maturity and wisdom galore. As beautiful and as grandiose this would all sound, it wouldn’t be a match for what the Lord considers a good life with Him. His life is better. His blessings are bigger. He has no limits so His dreams for us have no limits. When Jesus turned water into wine, it exceeded what people had expected from Him. Some might have thought He was going to bless the jars and the water would be a blessing to many. I don’t know. What I know is that He did something that was bigger and better.

Think about what you would like to see change in your life. Think about the area of your life that needs an increase. That part of your life is your jar of water. Present it to the Lord in prayer. Ask for an increase. Ask for multiplication. Ask Him to turn your water into wine. Ask Him to do bigger and better than what your mind knows. He has the ability. He has the means to make a big change. All it takes is for you to turn to Him and ask in faith. He is a compassionate God. He will listen to you and He will help you. Not just the way the world helps but in a bigger and better way. He is an expert at “bigger and better.” Don’t let your jar run dry. Let the Lord add to it and make it better. Let Him pour His finest wine into your jar.

The bigger and the better things the Lord has for you are waiting for you. They exist. They are more than what you imagine. Don’t let your mind tell you otherwise. You have seen nothing yet. God is a God of bigger and better. Believe that where you are now is not your final destination. Believe that your spiritual journey has only begun and that you will encounter bigger things on the way. Don’t settle for your best, settle for God’s best. There is bigger and better. Prepare your jar and be ready to receive more. Be ready to say “The Lord has done great things for me, and I am filled with joy” (Psalm 126:3). Expect big things!
