Talk about your freedom

So the man went away and began to tell in the Decapolis[a] how much Jesus had done for him. And all the people were amazed.” (Mark 5:20) This passage deals with a man who had been demon-possessed but he was set free by Jesus. After he received his deliverance, the man wanted to follow Jesus everywhere but Jesus told him to go and tell people about what had happened to him. I can see the fervor with which the man preached and spoke about what was probably the greatest miracle of his life. He met Jesus. Jesus knew exactly what his issue was and He healed him. Freedom was the result of this healing. Freedom will give you wings and will make you see life in a beautiful light. The man had been a prisoner of his condition and he didn’t know what life was like without the burden he had been carrying for years. Accepting the Lord and making Him our Savior is a form of healing. We get healed from our old self (at least our spirit does but our mind still needs work) and we experience true freedom. You and I have been set free. We were walking down the path of life going into dangerous territories but Jesus knew exactly how to help us. We turned to Him and asked Him to help us. What was our next step? Did we talk to everyone about what Jesus did for us? I have to be honest and say that I didn’t. I was young and very self-conscious and I was afraid that people would either reject me or think that I was crazy. Do you think Jesus would have a different recommendation for us, different from the one He gave the man who was delivered? I believe His recommendation is the same. He wants us to talk about our deliverance and our newly-found freedom.
I am not suggesting going out in the streets and proclaiming the Gospel unless you find yourself led to do that. We are to talk to the world and the world starts with us. It is important to remind ourselves about the deliverance Jesus brought into our life. It’s good to go back to day one of our freedom and rejoice over it. It’s easy to forget how it first felt but we need to celebrate the biggest miracle of our life. Then we should reach the world around us. Our family and friends deserve to know about the Lord. If you feel like you can’t reach them, pray and ask for help. Jesus will assist you for sure. He wants to bless everyone around you. One way to testify to others is by maintain a good relationship with the Lord that people will notice in you. They will see the joy, the love and the dedication and they will be amazed the same way people were amazed at what the man said after Jesus set him free. Let’s spread the Word and let’s keep the memories of our salvation alive. They will boost our faith and help us go forth.
