Don’t get discouraged

Do you ever get discouraged? If you answered no to this question we need to talk and you need to share your secret. We all get (a little) disheartened at times. It’s part of life but we need a defense mechanism. Picture discouragement as a disease. To fight off a disease we use pills or tablets. We go see a doctor and get a prescription. Well my friend, God is our doctor and He has a prescription for every illness and sickness including discouragement. What would God write on His prescription? First let me tell you that His prescription is legible. It’s not like most doctors’ where you can’t figure out what it says. His prescription is laid out clearly in His Word. There are hundreds of passages that can serve as the cure for discouragement. The first lines on His prescription are “Do not worry.” It is easier said than done but God knows best. Worrying has never helped me in any way. I used to indulge in worry sessions as a step to get over my problems. The truth is that it never helped. Thinking about the issue over and over only magnifies it and brings you down even more. Take God’s prescription and it will stop discouragement from getting the best of you. Admitting you need God’s help is the first step. I am a firm believer that it is important to recognize our emotions and feelings and not pretend we are not feeling sad or discouraged. It is crucial to name it as it is. It’s the sick that need a doctor, right? Jesus said Himself in Mark 2:17 that “it is not the healthy that need a doctor, but the sick.” If you don’t admit that you have a problem, you won’t seek help. If I get discouraged, I don’t scream it in the streets. I don’t go around building up a verbal case for the negative feelings but I tell the Lord how I am feeling and I cry out for His deliverance. Now, the next few lines on the prescription could be any of many verses from His Word. However, I also believe that the Lord would get down to your level and give you a prescription you can understand well and that would talk to your heart. There are times when verses and scriptures need to be supplemented by a personal note. God speaks your language and He knows exactly what to tell you. If you pray to Him, He will talk back to you and the Holy Spirt will give you the words you need to hear. He is our comforter. If you are feeling discouraged today, don’t give up. The Lord is not done with you. He will wipe off the tears and He will bring hope back. This is not the end. God has a way to turn things around. Keep in mind that you are not doing all this alone. He will send you the help you need. You can also find a to-go verse and make it your prescription. My to-go verse is John 16:33; “These things I have spoken to you, so that in Me you may have peace In the world you have tribulation, but take courage; I have overcome the world.” It builds me up so much. Jesus has overcome the world which means no matter what I am going through, it will come to pass because it is already taken care of. Don’t let discouragement get you down. You have the best doctor in the house!Suggested reading: Joshua 1:9; John 14:27; Hebrews 4:16
